Vovan has finally found the ideal concert grand piano for his digital recordings!
The unrivaled performance of Steinberg's newest VST instrument makes it the piano of
choice for musicians who wish to get the best out of their digital equipment.
Mozart's very famous Fantasy in d minor
was chosen for many good reasons. Known by practically all classical pianists,
this piece requires quite a diversity of play and a wide dynamic range.
Its familiarity makes it an ideal reference piece for critical listening and comparison.
Bach's Prelude in c minor
from Das Wolhtemperierte Klavier is part of the classical keyboardists
standard repertoire. Written in a two-part "toccata" style,
this piece suggests torment in a somewhat controlled manner,
which can lead to boredom unless the instrument (and player) have enough
resources to play with. Interpreted in a relatively straight tempo,
subtleties allowed by The Grand make this interpretation exciting...
and leaving us wishing it last longer.
Both pieces were recorded and sampled by playing them on a Yamaha P-80 directly to Cubase SX
while monitoring with Steinberg's The Grand.
They were then played through an old Lexicon Reflex Reverb and a Luxman LV-103 integrated amplifier
(with tube preamps), and re-recorded with the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 card.
These demos will soon be re-sampled with The Grand's upcoming VERSION 2 and processed with better digital reverbs.
