This young pianist makes Scriabin's Etude sound like the movement of a river, from swiftly flowing legato passages to wildly splashing rapids. The piece starts out with mysterious rumblings that quickly build to a Chopin-esque tonal resolution, only to immediately return to building tension. They resolve again, to a flowing minor passage; however, the piece continues to rush headlong forward to new levels of intensity. The piece finally reaches a cathartic, percussive climax before quietly resolving to its tonal center. Vovan's a master at conveying this gradually building tension: the quiet passages foreshadow the mayhem about to ensue.
